Steps to Become MBI Certified

Eligible companies must first request a Certification Application Packet. This packet will contain all of the requirements and instructions for earning certification.

Included among the requirements, applicants must submit the following:

Written safety policies that include specific critical areas identified by the MBI Certification Committee
Detailed description of employee training program including itemized procedures in a variety of industry-specific fields
Five letters of recommendation from general contractors or owners or projects completed within the past three years
Proof of proper insurance coverage
A detailed certification application

Each applicant also is required to submit an audited or professionally prepared financial statement to the Public Accounting Firm Charles Bibler & Associates in Englewood, Ohio. The accounting firm will notify the Metal Buildings Institute of a company’s eligibility under the financial requirements of the program. Financial information is not seen or reviewed by any member of the staff or board of directors of the Metal Buildings Institute.

Once the completed application packet is returned, the staff of the Metal Buildings Institute will review the documentation items and determine what, if any, deficiencies exist within the application. If there are deficiencies, the applicant company will be notified and provided with specific requirements remaining to be met in order to complete the certification process.

Once all documentation items have been received, audited and approved, you become recognized as a Metal Buildings Institute Certified Contractor!
